Snug Harbor Ships

Model ships were a hobby of my grandfathers. He took great pride in his work and I looked forward to the day I would get to build one of my own. Several hours of delicate work went into each one: putting it together one plank at a time, sanding it down to perfection, and carefully painting and assembling the final touches. They were truly a work of art.

My grandfather passed away in February 2008. His models of The HMS Bounty and The USS Constitution (a.k.a. "Old Ironsides") were left unfinished. Snug Harbor will no longer be selling these magnificent ships. However, I am leaving this section of our website up in his memory. And while I don't think I will ever be as skilled as my grandfather was - I hope that in the near future my daughter and I will be able to continue the family business by selling simpler models in his memory.

The last ship my grandfather worked on:

My grandfather last worked on his model of the USS Constitution, also known as "Old Ironsides". This ship was to be extra special because he was going to build the foremast with a piece from the real USS Constitution's foremast.

Why is this ship important? Go to http://www.ussconstitution.navy.mil/historyupdat.htm to learn about some of "Old Ironsides'" history and exactly why it is so important to our history. And see http://www.ussconstitution.navy.mil/OldIronsidesGallery.htm for more pictures of the USS Constitution.

Progress on our model of the USS Constitution as of October 2007:
